Tesla और SpaceX के founder Elon Musk ने एक बार फिर India की घटती birth rate पर चिंता जताई है। Musk ने X पर post करते हुए कहा कि India की Total Fertility Rate (TFR) अब 1.9 हो गई है — जो replacement level 2.1 से नीचे है।
सबसे चौंकाने वाला आंकड़ा Delhi का है — जहां TFR सिर्फ 1.2 है। यह Finland जैसे developed country से भी कम है। Mumbai (1.4) और Bangalore (1.5) भी replacement level से काफी नीचे हैं।
Musk ने tweet किया: “India, जो दुनिया का सबसे populous देश है, अब population decline की राह पर है। यह economically और culturally बड़ी चुनौती है।” इस post को millions of views मिले।
Demographers के अनुसार, इसकी वजहें हैं — बढ़ती education और career aspirations, urban lifestyle, delayed marriages, और rising cost of living। Young couples अब 1 या 0 बच्चे prefer कर रहे हैं।
Government ने अभी तक कोई official response नहीं दिया है। लेकिन कुछ economists का कहना है कि short term में यह चिंता की बात नहीं है — India का demographic dividend अभी भी 15-20 साल तक बरकरार रहेगा।
