2022 में Ukraine war के बाद से India ने Russia से discounted crude oil खरीदना शुरू किया था — और 2024-2026 के बीच Russian crude India के कुल oil imports का करीब एक-तिहाई रहा है। यह India की energy strategy का एक critical pillar बन चुका है।
2026 में Russia से India का crude import 1 से 1.2 million barrels per day के आसपास रहा है। Western sanctions और payment complications के बावजूद यह trade जारी रहा — क्योंकि India को affordable energy चाहिए और Russia को reliable buyers।
हालाँकि, अब US-Iran Peace Deal के बाद situation बदल सकती है। अगर Iranian crude फिर से global market में आता है तो India के पास और options होंगे। Iran previously India का एक major oil supplier था जब तक US sanctions ने उसे बाहर नहीं किया।
India की energy security strategy हमेशा से “diversification” रही है — यानी किसी एक source पर depend नहीं करना। Gulf countries, Russia, US और अब संभावित रूप से Iran — India सभी sources से balance बनाए रखता है।
India अपनी crude oil requirement का 85% से ज़्यादा import करता है। Strait of Hormuz से करीब 50% supplies आती हैं — इसलिए West Asia में कोई भी conflict India की energy security को directly affect करता है। यही वजह है कि Russia diversification में एक important role play करता है।
आगे देखें तो Russia और Iran दोनों ही India के energy basket में रहेंगे — लेकिन proportions बदल सकते हैं। India smart energy diplomacy play कर रहा है और यह देश की economic stability के लिए ज़रूरी भी है।
