एक दर्दनाक incident जिसने पूरे India को झकझोर दिया — June के शुरुआत में US military strike में तीन Indian seafarers की जान चली गई, और अब यह मुद्दा political controversy बन गया है।
M/T Settebello नाम का एक commercial oil tanker Sea of Oman से गुज़र रहा था जब US aircraft ने उस पर precision munitions fire किए। इस attack में tanker के engine room में आग लग गई। 28 crew members में से ज़्यादातर Indian nationals थे। तीन Indian seafarers इस attack में शहीद हुए — यह first recorded deaths of seafarers in a US strike था।
US military का कहना था कि crew ने American forces के instructions comply करने से बार-बार refuse किया था, इसलिए यह action लिया गया। लेकिन India में इस explanation से कोई satisfy नहीं हुआ। India ने Washington के Chargé d’Affaires को summoned किया और strong protest दर्ज कराया।
Congress ने इस मुद्दे पर PM Modi को घेरा। Congress spokesperson ने कहा कि PM Modi ने US President Donald Trump के साथ meeting में इन Indian seafarers की मौत का मुद्दा “ठीक से नहीं उठाया।” Congress का आरोप है कि Modi जी America के सामने India के हितों को boldly नहीं रखते।
यह incident Strait of Hormuz crisis के बड़े context में है — जब से Iran-US war शुरू हुई, Gulf से गुज़रने वाले commercial ships पर खतरा बहुत बढ़ गया है। Indian seafarers दुनिया के सबसे ज़्यादा mariners supply करते हैं, और इनकी safety एक बड़ा concern बन गई है।
India ने international forums पर यह मांग रखी है कि civilian ships और seafarers को protect किया जाए। Families of the deceased अभी भी justice का इंतज़ार कर रही हैं। यह incident याद दिलाता है कि global conflicts की कीमत आम लोगों को चुकानी पड़ती है।
