June 2026 में India ने Russia से crude oil import का नया record बना दिया है। June 1 से 19 के बीच India ने Russia से average 2.66 million barrels per day (bpd) crude oil import किया — जो May 2026 के 1.91 million bpd से 39% ज्यादा है!
इस period में Russian crude India के total oil imports का 53.5% रहा। यह numbers दिखाते हैं कि India अपनी energy needs के लिए Russia पर कितना depend करता है।
इस record import के पीछे एक बड़ी वजह है Strait of Hormuz में बढ़ता तनाव। Iran-US conflict के बीच इस strategic waterway को लेकर uncertainty बढ़ गई है, जिससे Middle East से oil supply में disruption का खतरा है। ऐसे में India के refiners ने Russian crude को secure करने की priority दी।
Russian crude India के लिए attractive इसलिए भी है क्योंकि यह competitive pricing पर मिलता है। Western sanctions की वजह से Russia को अपना oil discount पर बेचना पड़ता है, जिसका फायदा India उठा रहा है।
India की यह strategy clearly “energy pragmatism” की है — जहां से सबसे सस्ता और secure supply मिले, वहां से लो। यह approach Western countries को पसंद नहीं आती, लेकिन India अपने national interest को priority देता है।
Energy experts का कहना है कि India को अपनी energy diversification strategy continue करनी चाहिए। Renewable energy में invest करना, Russia और Middle East दोनों से balance करके oil लेना — यही India की long-term energy security का रास्ता है।
